The Micro SaaS Hustle: How I Make $400K/Year Building And Flipping Small Software Companies

Hey there! I’m Sam, a solo software entrepreneur who has found an awesome way to make a great living without any employees or investors. Over the last few years, I’ve gotten into the habit of rapidly building and selling off small software-as-a-service (SaaS) apps and tools. It’s become my full-time hustle and allows me to pull in around $400K per year on average.The basic process goes like this:
- Find a promising niche and build a micro SaaS product to serve that market in 3–4 months
- Bootstrap it by myself without any outside funding
- Grow it to $1K-$5K in monthly recurring revenue
- Sell the business on a site like Acquire.com for a 2–3x multiple
- Rinse and repeat!
It’s a fun way to live the indie hacker dream. I get to constantly be building new products, validating business ideas quickly, and if something doesn’t work out, I can just sell it off and move onto the next project.
